Zach & Zoe Sweet Bee Farm

100% raw honey sourced by bees that are carefully nurtured

Zach and Zoe Sweet Bee Farm is a family-owned apiary in central new jersey. Named after their children, Kam and Summer Johnson started beekeeping and used the honey from their hives to alleviate Zach’s seasonal allergies. Soon after, they began to sell the honey wholesale. Today, the family-owned business has an assortment of nine different raw organic honey sold online. Their goal is to build community through their brand and to raise awareness of the importance of beekeeping.

Bee Propolis—the active ingredient in honey that keeps the colony alive—is a phytonutrient that alkalizes in the stomach, unlike all other sweeteners that are acidic and put a strain on your digestive system. Honey has been linked to numerous other health benefits such as fighting indigestion, suppressing coughs, and decreasing pollen-related allergiesHoney is a natural antibacterial and antimicrobial with a high number of antioxidants making it a natural skin and hair care ingredient as well as a great moisturizer. Honey’s antiseptic nature makes it great for fighting acne without damaging your skin. Honey is also great for cooking, baking, and allergy relief.

The flavor and color of honey depend on the pollen collected from individual flowers. Our Wildflower Honey is a blend of many flowers gathered in the summer months making it a unique flavor each harvest. Thicker and darker than other honey, it provides more antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, than lighter honey. Our golden clover honey is a combination of white Dutch clover, white blossom clover, and yellow blossom clover. Mild and sweet in flavor, this floral honey is very versatile.

FAQs

Q How should I store my honey?

Ideally, honey is stored in a location away from direct sunlight and in a sealed container. You don’t need to refrigerate honey as the cooler temperatures cause the honey to solidify. Room temp is best.

Q What’s the shelf life of honey?

Honey has an incredibly long shelf life, largely due to the reduced moisture content, which means it doesn’t spoil.

Q Does honey work for allergies?

Honey has been studied as a cough suppressant and may have anti-inflammatory effects. Experts have also pointed out that honey can contain traces of flower pollen — an allergen. Read more about how raw honey worked for our son Zach’s allegories on our website.

Q What’s the difference between raw honey and filtered honey?

Raw honey is only strained before it's bottled, which means it retains most of the beneficial nutrients and antioxidants that it naturally contains. Conversely, traditional honey may undergo a variety of processing, which may remove beneficial nutrients like pollen and reduce its level of antioxidants.

Q Why did the texture of my honey change?

Honey is a super-saturated solution of two sugars: glucose and fructose. Since it’s super-saturated, it’s a natural chemical process in which some of the sugars eventually come out of the solution and change the texture of the honey. The more glucose in the honey, the more it tends to crystallize. Crystallized honey is actually a sign that honey hasn’t been diluted or adulterated in any way. A few additional factors that cause honey to crystallize include the presence of pollen and cooler temperatures. You can’t permanently stop honey from crystallizing, but there are easy steps you can take to slow down the process. Luckily, it’s also really simple to melt away the crystals by simply placing your honey jar in hot water.
