In 1991, I was sick with Crohn’s disease, needing steroids (not that kind of steroids), and feeling very frustrated. I was 18 years old and wanted to feel well. I had recently been released from the hospital but still didn’t feel strong or energetic. I told my doctor that I still just didn’t feel good. that doctor looked at me the way one may look at a toddler who doesn’t want to go to sleep, and said to me, “well, you may just have to get used to it.”. He seemed to think that I needed to simply accept sub-optimal health as my new reality for the rest of my life.

Fortunately, I am a little bit of a belligerent personality and was triggered by this doctor’s message. henceforth began my continuous journey to find what my body, heart, and soul need in order to be healthy, happy, and whole. let’s skip a few years…

I was a stay-at-home mom,

with degrees in biology and nutrition, and all was well and peachy in the land. Until, my youngest developed eczema; the kind of eczema that makes the child miserable all day and keeps the whole family awake at night.

I contacted several naturopaths from my graduate school, Bastyr University, and they each had the same recommendations. Eliminate dairy, and make an herbal salve!

Under their ongoing consult, I did some research of my own and developed my first salve.

Even though I already knew that herbs work, even I was amazed at how effective it was in soothing my daughter’s itchy, inflamed, and miserable skin!

This was the beginning of Ora’s Amazing Herbal.

Let’s jump another 10 ish years. My products work because we use formulas that have stood the test of time, passed down from generation to generation of herbalists, midwives, and grandmothers, and then are backed by science.

We slowly but surely are adding more products to the OrasHerbal line as we develop them, but only after researching, testing them (on humans only), and making sure they stand up to our standards of efficacy and purity.

While our products do not contain nuts, some of our ingredients are sourced in places that also process nuts. Additionally, our facility is not strictly nut free. It is possible for traces of nuts to make their way into our facility. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Q What is Ora's background and why is she so interested in natural and herbal skincare?

Ora holds a bachelor of science (BS) in biology and a master of science (MS) in nutrition. She also has the experience of being a mother who has a holistic approach to family wellness. She is grateful to have healed from chronic illness by working on living and eating as cleanly as possible on this earth. Just like food, she sees skincare as an opportunity for healing as well as fun and creative expression. As a mom, she loves watching her kids eat nori, blueberries, and apples and enjoy watching them use salves for scrapes and bumps and her lip balm for dry lips. She does not however enjoy it when they decide to polish the furniture with it. Ahem.
