HARLEM WEEK

Celebrating Harlem’s soul, one street block at a time.

HARLEM WEEK is an annual celebration of the best of Harlem which works to promote its rich African-American, African, Caribbean, Hispanic, and European history, as well as arts, culture, religion, business, entertainment, and sports.

What began in 1974 as a one-day event—“Harlem Day”—has grown into Harlem Week, an annual multi-week celebration honoring Harlem’s spirit, legacy, and global influence. Born from economic and cultural need, it was launched by figures like Percy Sutton, James Baldwin, Maya Angelou, and Ossie Davis to lift community pride—and uplift it did. Today it blends tradition and impact through concerts, fashion shows, health fairs, and panels that spotlight arts, business, and culture.

Each summer, Harlem Week invites EVERYONE—from elders honored on Senior Citizens Day, to artists at Summer in the City, to hustlers at the Uptown Night Market. Expect free beats, community wisdom, street food, panels on economic empowerment, health summits, and a runway-ready fashion block party that makes even the sidewalks feel like stages.
