Streets raised us. Horses saved us.
Compton Cowboys sit right at the intersection of culture, history, and community work in Compton. Straight out of Richland Farms, this crew of lifelong friends uses horses, ranch life, and creativity to give young people a different lane than the streets, while honoring the long, under-told legacy of Black cowboys in the West. Through their relationship with Compton Jr Equestrians, the ranch becomes a classroom, a safe zone, and a stage all at once—kids learn horsemanship, responsibility, and self-confidence, but also see themselves represented in a space most folks never even knew existed.
Beyond the ranch fences, the Compton Cowboys move like a cultural force: leading peace rides, showing up at protests and civic events on horseback, collaborating in fashion, music, and media, and using every bit of that spotlight to pour back into youth programs at the ranch. When you plug into what they’re doing, you’re not just looking at cool visuals of horses in the city—you’re looking at a long-term neighborhood strategy built around discipline, community pride, and possibility.
