Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Men of Distinction

Alpha Phi Alpha isn’t just a fraternity — it’s one of the original engines of Black excellence in this country. Founded in 1906 on the campus of Cornell University, the organization came together at a time when Black students were navigating isolation, discrimination, and straight-up hostility in higher education. Instead of folding, seven brothers built a brotherhood that pushed leadership, scholarship, and service as a lifestyle. From there, the movement grew from one campus to a national force shaping social justice, civic power, and community uplift across generations.

Over the last century, Alpha has produced some of our most iconic leaders — activists, trailblazers, educators, entrepreneurs — men who took their letters seriously and treated service like a calling, not a slogan. Their footprint stretches from voter-registration drives to mentorship programs, from civil rights action to youth development and international outreach. Wherever the fight for equity, dignity, and opportunity shows up, Alphamen are usually already in the mix, lifting as they climb and showing what disciplined, intentional Black leadership can look like.
